Landscape Series

Landscapes are both forms and records of force and movement and energy, the pressure from within the earth that lifts and the water and wind and ice that wears away. Landscapes connect us to the deep history of the Earth.

I lived much of my childhood in the National Parks, among the canyons, the mountains and the glaciers of the West. As a young man I traveled by raft on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers from Kansas City, Missouri to Helena, Arkansas. My landscape series reflects both vast landscapes created over millions of millennia and miniature landscapes made and remade every day along the shifting banks of the great rivers.

Many of these landscape sculptures are sets of theme-and-variation with a basic form developed over six or more sculptures. Two such sets are shown on this website.
